He doesn’t really have too much of an idea what Alex has been through and resents his brother for quite a few reasons, uprooting their lives, abandoning them, getting himself a rich and pretty white girlfriend who knows nothing of their roots and ways of life. He’s arrogant and very unlikable at the beginning of the novel, brash and over-confident, arrogant and full of himself. Alex didn’t go through everything he went through in the first novel, just for Carlos to end up in a different gang down in Mexico.Ĭarlos is reluctant to come and live with Alex and leave Mexico. Because Alex’s family had to flee the United States back to Mexico because of the events that happened towards the end of the first book, Alex is now determined to bring Carlos, his middle brother, to live with him because he feels that Carlos is getting involved in things and with people he shouldn’t be and he wants to give his brother the chance of a good education and university in the United States. So with Rules of Attraction we pick up a little while after Perfect Chemistry has ended and Alex and Brittany are at University together in Denver, Colorado. I dived straight into this one right after finishing Perfect Chemistry and it’s a little hard to talk about this one without mentioning the first, so there are very **mild spoilers** for Perfect Chemistry.
